Bruins sign Mark Stuart to contract extension

On Tuesday the Bruins signed defenseman Mark Stuart to a multi-year contract extension.

Stuart's 2007-2008 season with the Bruins was marked by a number of career highs, including games played (82), goals (4), assists (4), and points (8). Stuart was one of three Bruins to play in all 82 regular season games, joining Phil Kessel and Glen Metropolit, and played in all seven postseason contests. He also represented Team USA at the 2008 IIHF World Championship this past May.


Bruins acquire Johnny Boychuk

On Tuesday the Bruins traded forward Matt Hendricks to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Johnny Boychuk.

The 6-2, 225 pound Boychuk spent the majority of the 2007-08 season with Colorado's minor league affiliate, Lake Erie of the American Hockey League, where he posted 8-18-26 totals in 60 games. His 26 points ranked second highest among Erie defensemen and he led all blue-liners on the squad in power play scoring with 17 points.

Bruins 2008 draft picks

Yesterday during the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, the Bruins picked #16 in the first round and they picked center Joe Colborne.

Colborne, a 6-5, 190-pound center has spent the past two seasons playing for the Camrose Kodiaks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He was recently honored by being named the Canadian Junior A Hockey League Player of the year for the 2007-08 season.

"This kid can really fire the puck," said Chiarelli of the newest Bruins forward. "He's a good skater…very smart, with offensive acumen. He's a big, strong focused kid."

  • Nicholas Tremblay - Center, Shoots left, 5'11", 190 lbs. Born on May 04, 1988, Hometown is Candiac QC
  • Mark Goggin - Center, Shoots left, 5'11", 177 lbs. Born in Chicago, Illinois, July 29, 1990, Hometown is Glen Ellyn, Illinois

Bruins sign Matt Marquardt

On May 29th the Bruins signed forward Matt Marquardt to an entry-level contract. The Bruins acquired Marquardt in a trade sending defenseman Jonathan Sigalet to Columbus.

"Marquardt, who will turn 21 on July 19, 2008, registered 43 goals and 26 assists in 68 games during the 2007-2008 season which he split between Baie-Comeau Drakkar and the Moncton Wildcats, both of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). After recording 20-13-33 totals in 35 games for Moncton, he was traded to Baie-Comeau on December 22, 2007 where he scored 23 goals and added 13 helpers in 33 games."
