Bruins vs Sabres game 5 summary

The Sabres won Game 5 by the score 4-1. Game 6 will be on Monday night. I will be doing a live game post update as well for that game. The stats for game 5 are below.

In the first period, at 1:54, Adam Mair (1) scored assisted by Nathan Gerbe and Cody McCormick. At 18:54, Jason Pominville (2) scored assisted by Derek Roy and Tyler Ennis.

In the second period, at 9:22, Mike Grier (2) scored assisted by Paul Gaustad.

In the third period, at 17:30, Johnny Boychuk (1) scored a power play goal assisted by Dennis Wideman and Miroslav Satan. At 18:17, Tyler Ennis (1) scored an empty net goal assisted by Jason Pominville.

Tuukka Rask made 29 saves on 32 shots and is now 3-2. Ryan Miller made 34 saves on 35 shots and is now 2-3.

Today it was announced that Zdeno Chara will not be suspended for game 6 because the NHL rescinded the instigator penalty the refs gave him at the end of game 5. Well I don't know why the refs gave him an instigator penalty and a fighting major at the end of game 5 as Paul Gaustad slashed at Chara as he was skating up ice. Then Chara turned around and defended himself and then McCormick and Gaustad gang tackled Chara down to the ice. That's not really a fight, if it was then McCormick should have got third man in. Someone should have popped Ryan Miller for acting all tough with his goalie mask on grabbing Satan and trying to push him around. The Sabres broadcast commentator was advocating violence saying someone should punch Chara right in his nose when he was down on the ice with Sabres piled on top of him. That's class for you. You can watch the incident below.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff somehow missed Gaustad slashing at Chara and had these comments about the incident:

"It's a serious risk of an instigator when you come in throwing punches. They've got to take a hard look at that. Anything in the last five minutes is stupid to do. I like the fact that we had one grab him around the knees, one guy grab him around the waist, and another guy grab him around the neck. And the big man went down. You get in a situation like that, everybody knows the rules. You can't start slugging people. That's exactly what Chara was doing. Our response was good to that play."

Bruins coach Claude Julien on Ruff's comments:

"I've heard and read Lindy's comments. Hopefully, it's his way of taking pressure off his team. If not, it's a lot of whining. Simple as that. Every coach has his tactics. You just worry about yourself. As I said last night, we seem to be the team that's doing bad things. They seem to be the team that's on the nice side of all that stuff and they do nothing wrong. It's tactics. Those are things in the playoffs that coaches use, hopefully to their advantage. I don't pay much attention to it."

Nice response by Julien because Ruff is doing exactly that, whining and crying.
