Looking to next season for Bruins

This offseason for the Bruins will be interesting as the Bruins have the second pick in the upcoming NHL draft that will bring in either Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin, and the Bruins have quite a few unrestricted and restricted free agents to bring back or let walk away.

The Bruins unrestricted free agents are: Mark Recchi, Steve Begin, Miroslav Satan, Shawn Thornton, Dennis Seidenberg, and Johnny Boychuk.

The Bruins restricted free agents are: Blake Wheeler, Daniel Paille, Vladimir Sobotka, Mark Stuart, and Adam McQuaid.

Of the unrestricted free agents, I think the Bruins need to try and re-sign Mark Recchi, Shawn Thornton, Dennis Seidenberg, and Johnny Boychuk. Recchi showed he still has gas in the tank during the season and especially in the playoffs. Thornton is well known as being a good technical fighter and always ready to stand up for teammates, he needs to be kept. Seidenberg showed what he could do after the Bruins got him at the trade deadline, some good defense and a little offense. Boychuk improved a lot this season despite not playing much the first half of the season. Begin is a good role player who I enjoyed having on the team but if he can't be kept another player should be able to fill in his role. Satan showed a lot of offense in the playoffs but his defensive skills aren't the greatest and he's getting older. Is he worth re-signing? Maybe at a cheap price but I would expect his price to go up a little because of the nice playoff numbers he put up.

Of the restricted free agents, I think the Bruins should try and trade Wheeler or see if there is any interest in him out there. He committed so many minor penalties during the season and didn't do much offensively during the season and playoffs. We all know he isn't a physical player so I'm not going to throw that in there. Paille I think the Bruins will let go as he didn't have much offense and couldn't finish some of the chances he had during the playoffs. He is a great penalty killer but I think Brad Marchand will take over his role next season. Sobotka won't be forgotten as one of the two players who caused the too many men on the ice penalty (with Marc Savard), but I think he'll be re-signed as he showed he can bring the physical game during the playoffs. Stuart needs to be re-signed by the Bruins as soon as possible as he is a good dressing room leader and on-ice leader, and a good defensive defenseman. McQuaid is a young tough defenseman that I hope the Bruins re-sign as well. He showed he could handle the playoff intensity.

We'll wait and see what happens for the Bruins this offseason. I'll keep posting Bruins news throughout the offseason here on The Bruins Corner blog.
