Bruins end losing streak, beat Devils

Last night the Bruins ended their losing streak by beating the New Jersey Devils 4-1. In the first period, Ilya Kovalchuk scored a power-play goal to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. After that goal it was all Bruins. Shawn Thornton tied the game up in the first period, scoring his 9th goal of the season. A Dennis Seidenberg shot deflected off of Thornton and into the net.

In the second period, Zdeno Chara scored a power-play goal to make it 2-1 Bruins. It was Chara's 13th goal of the season and what a beautiful pass from Milan Lucic.

In the third period, Lucic scored his 30th goal of the season to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead. With 40 seconds left in the game, Mark Recchi would add an empty net goal to make it 4-1.

Tim Thomas made 30 saves on 31 shots.

Onto the next one
The Bruins next game is on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens in Boston. Everyone is talking about this game since it's the first time since the Chara hit they will be playing each other. Will anything happen? I'm guessing that nothing will happen because the points both teams need for the playoffs are important.

Veteran Mark Recchi was asked on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger and Massarotti Show if he was bothered by the Canadiens' "embellishment" of the injury.

"Obviously yeah [they embellished it]. He does have obviously a fractured vertebrae. But the concussion was obviously really a non-factor. Maybe a day or two; maybe a day he felt it and then he was fine a couple days later. I believe, yeah, they were trying to get Zdeno suspended and they embellished it a little bit. I guess in terms of that side, I mean you have to look at it as they were trying to do anything they could to get him suspended. And I think the league sent a message that it was a hockey play and that's the important thing that people have to understand.

While explaining that over his career he's been checked into the stanchion maybe 40 times, Recchi added: "That was an interference play at best and the partition got in the way."
