Don Cherry's comments about Chara hit

Tonight on Hockey Night in Canada, Don Cherry on Coach's Corner gave his opinion on the whole Zdeno Chara hit on Montreal's Max Pacioretty. You can watch the whole segment below. Cherry's quotes are below.

"If the [stanchion] is on a slant, the kid [Pacioretty] has a headache today. If you [make that change] it would be good," said Cherry, as he held a drawing of a reshaped stanchion.

For years, there have been incidents of players hitting the stanchion, Cherry added.

Cherry agreed with the decision by Mike Murphy, the assistant to NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell, not to suspend Chara for the hit.

"Here's a guy, six-foot-nine, 260 pounds. For thirteen years he's never been suspended, he's never tried to hurt guys. If he tried to hurt guys, he'd kill 'em at that size," said Cherry.

For those wondering why the league wouldn't banish Chara for three or four games, Cherry had an explantion.

"It's either you give him 20 games or you give him none. It can't be a little," he said. "He was just taking [Pacioretty out of the play].

"The league did it right this time."

Don Cherry also had some comments for Canadiens owner Geoff Molson, who said the NHL should have suspended Chara and player safety was a point of urgency.

"Here's what I want you to do, Geoff," began a perturbed Cherry. "I want you to ... call all your players together in the dressing room and you say: 'I want you to answer this honestly and don't be afraid. How do you feel about playing 41 [home] games with that seamless glass and the boards in Montreal?'

"Worst in the league for injuries. Ask them that, instead of going in the paper and saying you want to do this and want to do that [and that Chara] should have been suspended."

Cherry says Air Canada should be ashamed for complaining. Should Colin Campbell be ashamed for demanding favourable calls for his sonny boy on team Bruin? Fired?! Should Cherry be ashamed for not mentioning it? NHL's a cruel joke.Kids emulate these bozos. Don't call in the keystone cops and politicians? Why not? Why do they play the National Anthems at games? Why call it the National League? Remember the '72 'Canada Russia series? Only no Hull etc WHAless NHLers were allowed to play. Then in '74 only WHA. Gov't approved and they called themselves Team Canada. And citizens have to pay for all their equipment and ice time etc.Tax breaks, team rinks subsidised by taxpayers etc. Police and armed forces honour guards and tributes. Pro sports are private corporations on welfare subsidy from taxpayers. On seven foot couches people balooning to 250 lbs before that immovable stantion the tv station glass, eventually getting brain damage from the idiot box and or heart stopping plays from just sitting there for hours - now that's a dangerous hit. Ram that tv station stantion into the wall, glass and all. And thank God you made it out of the NHL sudden death playoffs alive. Otherwise worst of all - for the real future considerations - you don't got the time for nor have a prayer.

Hey Don
you not even remembering Max name and referring to he having a headache. I think you should of shut your mouth regarding this issue and just stuck to commenting on your St. Patty outfit. Obviously your hat was a little too tight.
