Thomas and Bruins shut out Blackhawks

Another game, another accomplishment by veteran Mark Recchi. Recchi recorded an assist on Johnny Boychuk's goal in the second period which moved him to 12th place on the NHL's all-time points list.

Tim Thomas recorded his 9th shutout of the season, his 26th career shutout which puts him tied for 4th place on the Bruins all-time shutout list with legend Gerry Cheevers. The Bruins went on to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0.

In the first period, no scoring happened.

In the second period, Zdeno Chara scored his 14th goal of the season. Later, Boychuk would score his 3rd goal of the season. During the second period, a scary incident with Shawn Thornton getting cut above his right eye by Fernando Pisani's skate. Play was stopped and Thornton skated to the Bruins bench. But before he could get there someone on the Blackhawks bench said something because Thornton got enraged and was trying to get at the bench but was held off by referee Don Van Massenhoven. Thornton would go to the dressing room and not return. He got a 40-stitch repair job on his forehead. Check the video out below to hear his comments and see the cut.

"If I ever find who it was, I'll deal with it my own way," Thornton said. "Yeah something was said. Obviously I can't swear when I talk to you guys. There was some stuff said that I am not happy about."

"He [Don Van Massenhoven] heard it and he was [ticked]," Thornton said. "He was [ticked] too. He didn't know who it was either. He actually yelled at their bench. I appreciate it. Those guys on their team chirp a lot. I don't know if it is right when someone's face is half across the other side of their face.

In the third period, Nathan Horton scored his 24th goal of the season on a nice deke move he put on goalie Corey Crawford. Tim Thomas made 32 saves to earn the shutout. Thomas is now 33-10-8, with a 1.96 GAA, and a .940 save percentage. The Bruins led the game in shots 34-32. The Blackhawks led the game in facoff wins 33-31 and hits 22-17. Onto the next one The Bruins next game is on Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Boston.
