Bruins vs Canadiens game 7 summary

The Boston Bruins are going to the second round of the playoffs to take on the Philadelphia Flyers as the Bruins beat the Montreal Canadiens tonight in Game 7 in overtime. Nathan Horton was again the overtime hero, winning the game for the Bruins as his slap shot deflected off Jeff Halpern and past Carey Price into the net. Tim Thomas came up big in overtime and the Bruins were lucky at one time as Dennis Seidenberg almost knocked the puck into his own net.

In the first period, Johnny Boychuk scored his 1st goal of the playoffs to make it 1-0 Bruins. Two minutes later Mark Recchi would make it 2-0, scoring his 1st goal of the playoffs. Montreal would later score a power-play goal to make it 2-1.

In the second period, Plekanec scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway to tie the game 2-2.

In the third period, Chris Kelly scored his 3rd goal of the playoffs to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. With 1:57 left in the game, Patrice Bergeron in the penalty box for a high sticking penalty, P.K. Subban scored on a hard slap shot from the point to tie the game 3-3.

The game would go into overtime. 5:43 into overtime Nathan Horton would score to win the game for the Bruins.

It was a hard fought even series and great job by both teams.

Montreal led the game in shots 37-34. The Bruins led the game in faceoff wins 44-29 and hits 34-24.

Tim Thomas made 34 saves on 37 shots. Thomas is now 4-3 with a 2.25 GAA and a .926 save percentage.

Notes from the game
Bergeron had another strong game, despite the penalty in the third period, going 20-12 in the faceoff circle, getting an assist, was a +1, took 5 shots and had 4 hits.

Johnny Boychuk had a good game as well, scoring a goal, was +2, and had 3 hits.

We'll wait and see if there will be any discipline action taken on Andrew Ference for his incidental contact with Jeff Halpern that had Halpern down on the ice for awhile. Ference did have a good game, getting 2 assists and was +3.

The first line of Lucic-Krejci-Horton looked better in this game but at times didn't look good either. It was good to see them score the overtime goal.
