Bruins defense breaks down as Sabres win

A lot of people were expecting a fight-filled game as the Sabres came to town to take on the Bruins. Although there was one fight in the game, it was a back and forth game with both teams making mistakes until the Sabres took over in the third period capitalizing on Bruins mistakes and beating the Bruins 7-4.

Today was also Ty;er Seguin's 21st birthday but it most likely won't be a happy one to remember.

Quick game summary
In the first period, no scoring happened. Shawn Thornton dropped the gloves with giant John Scott and Scott got the better of Thornton, sending Thornton down to the ice. Thornton would serve his five minutes in the box and then head to the Bruins locker room. Thornton would not return to the game.

In the second period, Sabres Thomas Vanek, who we all know is a Bruins killer, scored to make it 1-0 Sabres. Later, Bruins Rich Peverley scored his 1st goal of the season to tie the game 1-1. Less than three minutes later, Bruins Brad Marchand scored his 4th goal of the season to make it 2-1 Bruins. Later, Brad Marchand scored his 5th goal of the season, making it 3-1 Bruins. Later, Bruins Milan Lucic and Zdeno Chara took bad penalties at the same time to give the Sabres a 5-on-3. Vanek would again score, a power-play goal this time, making it 3-2. After the rest of the power-play, Tyler Ennis scored to tie the game 3-3.

In the third period, early on, Bruins David Krejci scored his 2nd goal of the season to make it 4-3 Bruins. Less than a minute later, Sabres Alexander Sulzer scored to tie the game 4-4. Later, Sabres Cody Hodgson scored making it 5-4 Sabres. With less than two minutes left, Vanek got his hat trick, scoring again, making it 6-4 Sabres. With fourteen seconds left in the game, Sabres Jason Pominville scored an empty net goal making it 7-4.

Game notes
Tuukka Rask played in net for the Bruins and made 25 saves on 31 shots. Rask is now 4-1-1 with a 2.44 GAA and a .909 save percentage this season.

The Bruins led the game in shots 42-31 and faceoff wins 36-27. The Sabres led the game in hits 20-17 and blocked shots 24-8. The Bruins went 0-for-4 on the power-play while the Sabres went 1-for-2.

Rich Peverley led the Bruins with 6 shots.

Andrew Ference and Dennis Seidenberg led the Bruins with 3 hits apiece.

Sabres Thomas Vanek is truly a Bruins killer, just look at the numbers. Vanek has played 46 career games against the Bruins, has scored 28 goals, along with 26 assists, for 54 points.

Player notes
Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid was back in the lineup.

Chris Bourque was scratched and Lane MacDermid played in his first game this season.
