Bruins 2013 trade deadline deals

The first move that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli made was a minor trade, trading away forward Max Sauve to the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Rob Flick.

Flick has skated in 51 games with the Rockford IceHogs (AHL) this season and has registered three goals and two assists with 97 penalty minutes (ranks fifth on the team). The 22-year old centerman has appeared in 96 AHL games, tallying 10 goals and 8 assists with 188 penalty minutes during that span.

Sauve has skated in 52 games this year with the Providence Bruins (AHL) and has scored 10 goals and earned 13 assists. In total, Sauve has appeared in 158 games with the P-Bruins and has registered 44 goals and 45 assists.

The second move that Chiarelli pulled off was acquiring veteran defenseman Wade Redden from the St. Louis Blues for a conditional 7th round draft pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The draft pick becomes a 6th round pick in 2014 if Redden plays 1 or more games in the playoffs this year.

I think getting Redden was a good move as he should be a good 5th or 6th defenseman for the Bruins. Remember, he use to play with Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly in Ottawa so he knows a few faces in the Bruins dressing room.

Redden has appeared in 23 games this year with the St. Louis Blues, scoring two goals and three assists with 11 penalty minutes. The 35-year-old blueliner has skated in 1017 NHL games between Ottawa Senators (1995-2008), New York Rangers (2008-2010) and the St. Louis Blues (2012-2013) in his career and has registered 108 goals and 347 assists for 455 points during that span. Redden skated in his 1,000 NHL game on February 7, 2013 against the Detroit Red Wings and is the 10th active defenseman to reach that milestone.

The 6'2", 205-pound native of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan was drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round (second overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He is a former teammate of current Bruins Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly during his stint with the Senators.
