Bruins extend GM Peter Chiarelli

Last Thursday, Bruins President Cam Neely announced that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has signed a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

Chiarelli will enter his eighth season with Boston in 2013-14 after becoming the Bruins seventh General Manager on May 26, 2006. In the previous seven seasons, the B’s have qualified for the playoffs six times with Chiarelli at the helm and have compiled a 50-35 postseason record, which includes a Stanley Cup championship in 2011 and an Eastern Conference Championship in 2013.

Chiarelli became just the third General Manager in B’s history to win a Stanley Cup in Boston in 2010-11, joining both Art Ross (1929, 1939, 1941) and Milt Schmidt (1970 and 1972).

During the regular season, Chiarelli has amassed a 291-187-62 record (.596 win percentage). In his tenure, the Bruins have had five 90-plus point seasons, including three 100+ point campaigns.
