Canucks break it open in 3rd period, beat Bruins 6-2

Well it wasn't a rematch of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals as both teams have new players and the Canucks have a new head coach but fans were looking forward to this matchup. The Bruins who are missing quite a few roster players, kept the game somewhat close (3-1) until the third period where the Canucks broke it open and beat the Bruins 6-2.

Quick game summary
In the first period, Jarome Iginla got into a fight with Canucks Ryan Kesler after Iginla laid him out with a hit. Iginla hurt his hand in the fight and did not return in the period, but came back in the second period. Later, Canucks Jannik Hansen scored, making it 1-0 Canucks.

In the second period, Bruins Reilly Smith scored his 8th goal of the season, tying the game 1-1. Less than two minutes later, Canucks David Booth scored, making it 2-1 Canucks. Later, Canucks Chris Higgins scored, making it 3-1 Canucks.

In the third period, Canucks Yannick Weber scored, making it 4-1 Canucks. Canucks Henrik Sedin scored a power-play goal, making it 5-1. Canucks Christopher Tanev scored a short-handed goal, making it 6-1. Bruins Reilly Smith scored his 9th goal of the season, making it 6-2.

Game notes
Tuukka Rask started in net for the Bruins and made 19 saves on 23 shots. Rask was pulled after the 4th goal which was early in the third period. Backup goalie Chad Johnson came into the game and made 5 saves on 7 shots. Rask is now 16-8-2 with a 1.98 GAA and a .932 save percentage this season.

The Bruins went 0-for-3 on the power-play while the Canucks went 1-for-2. The Bruins led the game in shots 41-30 and hits 19-13. The Canucks led the game in faceoff wins 36-33 and blocked shots 19-15.

Patrice Bergeron led the Bruins with 7 shots. Zdeno Chara led the Bruins with 4 hits and 5 blocked shots.

The Bruins are now 22-9-2 with 46 points and 1st place in the Atlantic Division. The next game for the Bruins is on Tuesday when they host the Calgary Flames at 7pm ET in Boston.
