Jimmy Hayes has breakout game in Bruins win over Avs

Bruins fans can somewhat breathe a sigh of relief as the Bruins got their first win of the season on Wednesday night against the Colorado Avalanche. But the third period was not a good one as the Bruins looked to have almost reverted their play back to the first three games of the season. Hopefully that doesn't carry into their next game on Saturday night. Jimmy Hayes had a breakout game, scoring 1 goal and recording 3 assists.

Quick game summary
In the first period, Bruins Kevan Miller scored his 1st goal of the season, making it 1-0 Bruins. Less than three minutes later, Bruins Jimmy Hayes scored his 1st goal of the season, making it 2-0 Bruins.

Game notes
Jonas Gustavsson made his Bruins debut, played in net and made 20 saves on 22 shots. Gustavsson is now 1-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .909 save percentage this season.

The Bruins led the game in shots 25-22 and faceoff wins 28-25. The Avalanche led the game in hits 16-6 and blocked shots 10-9. The Bruins went 0-for-2 on the power-play while the Avalanche went 1-for-4.

David Pastrnak had a rough game, ending up with 0 shots and getting 6 PIMs (4 were for a double-minor high-sticking penalty).

Brad Marchand, Max Talbot and Zach Trotman were scratched and did not play. Bruins players who made their Bruins debut: Jonas Gustavsson, Tyler Randell and Tommy Cross. On Tuesday, defenseman Joe Morrow was placed on the IR because of the flu and the Bruins recalled defenseman Tommy Cross.

The Bruins are now 1-3-0 with 2 points this season and in 7th place in the Northeast Division. The next game for the Bruins is on Saturday, at the Arizona Coyotes, at 10pm ET.
