Bruins vs Canadiens Winter Classic Alumni game

The 2016 Winter Classic Alumni game was tonight with the Boston Bruins alumni vs Montreal Canadiens alumni where we got to see some NHL legends including Ray Bourque, Mark Recchi, Guy Carbonneau and more. The game ended in a 4-4 tie and went to a shootout where the Bruins won 3-2. Below is a video with the highlights of the game.

Marchand suspended for 3 games

NHL video explaining why Bruins Brad Marchand was suspended.
Today the NHL announced that Bruins forward Brad Marchand has been suspended for 3 games for his hit/clipping on Senators Mark Borowiecki on December 29th. That means Marchand will miss the Winter Classic game on Friday.

It was a dumb move by Marchand to make the hit and I'm surprised he didn't get more games because of his history. Even if what Marchand said is true, about him not going for the hit but rather trying to turn back up the ice to go after the puck, you can't make that turn because you're going to make contact with the other person.

Bruins beat Senators 7-3 in spirited game

Ottawa Senators @ Boston Bruins game recap video, on December 29, 2015.
The second game in a home-and-home with the Ottawa Senators had a feisty ending to a hard-fought 7-3 win by the Bruins. The next meeting between these two teams is on January 9th. I expect Bruins Brad Marchand to get some kind of punishment for going low on Senators Mark Borowiecki.

Quick game summary
In the first period, Bruins Jimmy Hayes scored his 6th goal of the season, making the score 1-0 Bruins. Later, Senators Chris Neil scored, tying the game 1-1. Later, Bruins Patrice Bergeron scored his 13th goal of the season, a power-play goal, making the score 2-1 Bruins.

In the second period, Bruins Matt Beleskey scored his 6th goal of the season, a power-play goal, making the score 3-1 Bruins. Later, for some dumb reason Senators Mark Borowiecki took some shots at Bruins captain Zdeno Chara which didn't sit well with the big guy. They dropped the gloves and Chara rag-dolled Borowiecki down to the ice. Borowiecki is lucky Chara didn't throw any punches when he had the chance to unload on him. Later, Senators Mika Zibanejad scored, making the score 3-2.

In the third period, Bruins Patrice Bergeron scored his 14th goal of the season, a power-play goal, making the score 4-2 Bruins. Less than two minutes later, Senators Mike Hoffman scored, making the score 4-3. Later, Bruins Jimmy Hayes scored his 7th goal of the season, making the score 5-3 Bruins. Less than a minute later, Bruins Matt Beleskey scored his 7th goal of the season, making the score 6-3 Bruins. With less than a minute left in the game, Senators Max McCormick went after Bruins Landon Ferraro for no reason and got the better of Ferraro, who isn't a fighter. After the next faceoff there was more chippy play starting with Senators Dave Dziurzynski taking a run at Bruins Kevan Miller, which then led to Bruins Adam McQuaid dropping the gloves with Senators Chris Neil and Bruins Zac Rinaldo dropping the gloves with Senators Dave Dziurzynski. The McQuaid-Neil bout didn't have much action, but both looked to face-rake each other (earlier in the game Neil gave McQuaid a stick between the legs). In the Rinaldo-Dziurzynski fight, Rinaldo put a beating on his opponent. After all the penalties were handed out, with less than a second left in the game, Bruins Jimmy Hayes scored his 8th goal of the season, a power-play goal, making the score 7-3 Bruins.

Max Talbot suspended for 2 games

NHL video explaining why Boston Bruins forward Max Talbot has been suspended for two games.
The NHL announced today that Bruins forward Max Talbot has been suspended for two games for his late interference hit on New Jersey Devils forward Jiri Tlusty.

This suspension is definitely justified as Talbot's hit was very late and not needed. Talbot isn't known for these types of hits so it was weird seeing him do this.

Oilers beat Bruins in overtime 3-2

Edmonton Oilers @ Boston Bruins game recap video, on December 14, 2015.
On Monday night the Bruins hosted the young Edmonton Oilers, hoping to extend their short winning streak. The Bruins would score late in the third period to tie the game and send it to overtime but once again the team not built for shootouts and 3-vs-3 play (the Bruins) would get beat, as the Oilers won 3-2.

In the third period, Bruins Zac Rinaldo made a borderline bad hit on a Panthers player and Panthers Shawn Thornton came in and took him down. Dumb play by Rinaldo, luckily for the Bruins both Rinaldo and Thornton got 4 penalty minutes each. I don't think Rinaldo saw the ice again after that hit and altercation. If you watch the incident again, it seemed the fans cheered for Thornton going after Rinaldo for the hit. Thornton will always be a Bruin while Rinaldo never will be in the hearts of Bruins fans. Later, Panthers Reilly Smith scored, making the score 2-1. With 1:23 left in the game and Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo on his way to the bench for an extra attacker, Bruins Brad Marchand scored his 14th goal of the season, an empty-net goal, making the score 3-1 Bruins.

Bruins lose in badly officiated game

Boston Bruins @ Edmonton Oilers game recap video, on December 2, 2015.
On Wednesday night I watched one of the worst officiated NHL games that I have ever seen in the Bruins @ Oilers game. Referees Graham Skilliter and Brad Meier need to be fired or fined for the awful job they did as both teams got very questionable penalties against them. You can't have refs making the calls they did last night, it was a disgrace to watch.

Both teams had ups and downs at times where they looked bad. The game would go to a shootout and the team not built for shootouts got the loss, that would be the Bruins.

Quick game summary
In the first period, no scoring happened.

In the second period, Oilers Mark Letestu scored a short-handed goal, making the score 1-0 Oilers. Later, Bruins Torey Krug scored his 2nd goal of the season, tying the game up 1-1.
