Today the Bruins re-signed defenseman Dennis Wideman to a 4-year contract worth $15.5 million. This is a good signing as Wideman has improved defensively and he has offensive touch which the Bruins need. Last season he scored 13 goals and had 23 assists in 81 games.
Also today the Bruins announced that they have placed veteran forward Glen Murray on waivers. It's tough to see the veteran go but he hasn't played the way he once did when Joe Thornton was feeding him those sweet passes. I wish Murray the best wherever he lands, he's a total class act. Maybe he'll land in San Jose and be reunited with Joe Thornton or maybe head back to Los Angeles and help the young kids over there.
He'll see $3.25million the first year, $3.75 million the second year, $4 million the third and $4.5 million in the final year of the pact. Because of the structure of the deal, which includes a $250,000 bonus, Wideman's cap hit will be $3.25 million this year and then move up to $4 million next season.

It's not likely a team will claim Murray off waivers, but rather wait until the Bruins complete a buyout.
Here's the rationale, according to the Globe: "If Murray goes unclaimed and the Bruins complete the buyout, they will trim $2,766,667 from their 2008-09 cap hit, bringing their current number down to $55,469,999. They will carry Murray's remaining money of $1,383,333 on their 2009-10 payroll."
