Last night the Bruins opened the 2008-09 NHL season at the Colorado Avalanche. The Bruins started slow in the first period with the Avalanche mostly dominating the play. At the end of the first period it was 2-2, with Phil Kessel and Blake Wheeler scoring for the Bruins. Wheeler's goal was his first NHL goal. At the end of the second period, the score was 3-3, with Marc Savard scoring a power-play goal on a redirection. In the third period, new Bruin Michael Ryder scored, and David Krejci scored the game winner with less than three minutes left in the game. Krejci's goal was set up from the hard work by Milan Lucic (Lucic received an assist on the goal).

David Krejci was the first star of the game with a goal and an assist. While Marc Savard was the third star of the game also with a goal and an assist. Patrice Bergeron looked good in his first regular season game back and recorded two assists with five shots on net. Tim Thomas started and finished in net for the Bruins, stopping 35 of 39 shots.
