Bruins sign Derek Morris

TSN.ca is reporting that the Bruins have signed defenseman Derek Morris to a one-year contract for $3.3 million. So with this signing the Aaron Ward trade makes a little more sense. But still I think $3.3 million for Morris is a bit high but I'm hoping he can play the way he use to back in his Calgary Flames days. Morris brings more offense to the game than Ward did, but I think Ward was better defensively. I'm thinking Morris will be paired with Zdeno Chara and that should be an interesting pair. Also Morris is known for getting injuries so hopefully that doesn't happen this coming season for him. Now we just got to wait and see what happens with Phil Kessel as with this signing I'm not sure how much room in the cap there is for him.

This will be the fifth NHL stop for the Edmonton native who also patrolled the blue line for the Rangers, Coyotes, Avalanche and Flames during his 10-year career.

In 75 games last season split between New York and Phoenix, the 30-year old Morris had five goals and 15 assists.

Morris was originally a first round pick, 13th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
