Marc Savard injured from Cooke cheapshot

Well you can add Bruins Marc Savard to the list of players that cheapshot artist Matt Cooke has injured during this season. In today's Bruins vs Penguins game, in the third period, Cooke delivered a hit to Savard's head from the blindside, which looked like his elbow, maybe shoulder, I can't really tell, but in any case a shot to the head. It looks a little like the Mike Richards hit on David Booth, but Cooke extended his arm, and Richards did not in his hit. You can watch the cheapshot below. Cooke needs to be suspended, hell I would love to see his ass thrown out of the league as this is what he always does, injures players. Another NHL star injured, isn't this great for the league.

The AP is saying that Savard sustained a concussion from this hit. Bruins coach Claude Julien on the hit:
"It's pretty obvious that was definitely a dirty hit," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "That's probably the classic blind-side hit to the head ... I'm usually reserved in making comments, but definitely the league will take care of it."

"A guy like that has to be suspended," Julien said. "That's the way I see it because it's an elbow to the head from the blind side, and that's exactly the example they show, what we've got to get out of this game. We got a guy who's got a concussion, our best player, and he's going to be out for a while. He was out on the ice for a bit and that's unacceptable."

Matt Cooke on the hit:
"I felt like it was shoulder to shoulder," said Cooke, who is uncertain whether he will be suspended by the NHL. "I know he's shooting the puck but I just finished my check. I got hit the same way my shift before at centre ice by their defenceman, except I (ducked) at the last second."

The Bruins play the Penguins one more time this season, on March 18th at Boston.

Well Marc Savard has a grade 2 concussion. And it seems like Colin Campbell isn't going to do anything to Matt Cooke about the hit.

Former Bruin Lyndon Byers says that Matt Cooke needs to get pummeled and I agree with him. On March 18th we'll see what happens when he and the Penguins visit Boston. Of course we know the NHL will try and stop anything from happening in that game and probably tell refs to throw people out of the game if stuff starts.

Mike Milbury says that with the way the rules are right now, Cooke shouldn't be suspended.

That piece of shit Cooke should be suspended for the rest of the season. That was an intentional headshot. Did you see the Bruins last night zoom in replay of the hit? Good view at his elbow hitting Savard's head. Cooke had Savard's whole body to hit but chose to only hit his head, what a gutless cheap play. But that's the NHL these days, these guys don't respect each other and the rules protect these kinds of players who hide behind the instigator rule. Just like Lyndon Byers said if it was the old days Cooke would of gotten pummeled right there and then. I'm wondering what kind of response the Bruins will have on March 18th. Will they do anything or say we need 2 points? I say fuck it and go after Crosby and Malkin. Payback is a bitch.

Also I just found this on WEEI.com. Colin Campbell was a guest on the Dennis & Callahan show this morning and Campbell had this to say about Matt Cooke and the hit:

"Our staff agreed, it was a consensus, even though we didn't like it, we don't like Cooke, we don't like the way he plays and some things he does. We couldn't find criteria that was consistent with suspending him. You think I like what happened to Marc Savard? I coached him, I was his first coach with the New York Rangers when Marc broke in. I didn't like what happened to Marc Savard. No one liked what happened. And you would like to do something to the player that did it. But you have to stay consistent, and I can't make up a rule for a play. In this case, I couldn't make it up."

Come on we all know whats gonna happen when they meet next week. Cooke is just gonna turtle and hide and draw penalties. Thats his game thats what he does. He is a pussy and plays like one. They need to take out the stupid instigator rule. These little rats would not be in the game anymore.

Some comments from Penguins' Bill Guerin on the hit:

"If a guy gets hurt like that with a shot to the head, there's got to be something. Actions happen. Guys don't mean to hurt each other, but they do. You got to pay a price for that."
