It was back to hockey tonight for the Bruins as they faced the Buffalo Sabres.
In the first period, Nathan Horton scored his 19th goal of the season to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Early in the game Gregory Campbell dropped the gloves with Cody McCormick after they lightly collided behind the Sabres net. McCormick got the better of Campbell but props to Campbell for taking on the bigger more experienced McCormick.
In the second period, Mark Recchi scored his 12th goal of the season to make it 2-0 Bruins. But the Sabres would score twice to tie up the game in the period. There were also two fights late in the period. First Adam McQuaid dropped the gloves with Paul Gaustad in a spirited bout. Later Milan Lucic took on Cody McCormick in a fight where both guys looked tired.
In the third period, Gregory Campbell scored his 10th goal of the season to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead. The Sabres would tie it and the game would go into overtime.
In overtime, ex-Bruin Brad Boyes would score the game winner for the Sabres.
Tim Thomas played in net and made 41 saves on 45 shots. Thomas is now 29-8-8, with a 2.01 GAA, and a .939 save percentage.
The Sabres led the game in shots 45-29 and faceoff wins 34-32. The Bruins led the game in hits 24-23. Both teams had 18 blocked shots.

Some notes from the game
Tyler Seguin was scratched and Daniel Paille was in the lineup. Steve Kampfer was again out with a concussion. Johnny Boychuk was sporting a black eye from his fight with Ryan White in the last game.
Zdeno Chara had 2 assists, was a +2 and was physical.
Some of the penalty calls in the game were questionable (especially the Zdeno Chara's boarding call, Dennis Seidenberg's cross checking call, and Brad Marchand's triping call).
Mark Recchi was playing with an edge tonight, crashing the net, throwing the body around, and even challenging Drew Stafford to a fight which Stafford wanted no piece of the smaller older Recchi.
I noticed one time in the faceoff circle, Sabres Paul Gaustad was holding his stick as a right-handed shooter facing Patrice Bergeron (Gaustad is a left-handed shot). Bergeron went 15-11 in the faceoff circle.
The Bruins power-play continues to look awful as they went 0 for 3 tonight. Tomas Kaberle really hasn't helped the power-play as some thought he would when the Bruins traded for him. Since coming to the Bruins, Kaberle has 1 assist in 9 games, is a +4, with 8 shots, and 0 power-play points. With those numbers, you can say he hasn't done much at all for the Bruins.
Bruins killer Thomas Vanek had a goal and an assist. If he only played against the Bruins every game he would have over 100 points during the season.
Onto the next one
The Bruins next game is tomorrow at the New York Islanders. The Bruins need to stop this 3-game losing streak.
