Bruins beat Thrashers 3-2

Before today's afternoon game against the Atlanta Thrashers, rookie Brad Marchand won the Seventh Player Award. The Seventh Player Award, voted on by Bruins fans, is an annual award presented to the Bruin who went above and beyond the call of duty and exceeded the expectations of Bruins fans during the season. I also thought Marchand should win this as no one expected him to do what he is doing. Then the game came and the Bruins beat the Atlanta Thrashers 3-2 with the game winning goal scored by Michael Ryder on a penalty shot. The Bruins have now officially clinched the Northeast division.

Here's the breakdown for the Bruins goals. In the first period, Mark Recchi scored his 14th goal of the season.

In the second period, Daniel Paille scored his 4th goal of the season to tie the game 2-2.

In the third period, Michael Ryder scored his 18th goal of the season on a penalty shot to give the Bruins the 3-2 win. The Bruins would hold on for the win.

Tuukka Rask played in net for the Bruins and made 28 saves on 30 shots. Rask is now 11-13-2, with a 2.66 GAA, and a .918 save percentage.

The Thrashers led the game in shots 30-24 and hits 16-14. The Bruins dominated in faceoff wins 41-19.

Defenseman Shane Hnidy played in his first game with the Bruins this season. He had 2 PIMs, 3 shots, 1 hit, and was even for the +/- stat.

Onto the next one
The Bruins next game is on Monday at the New York Rangers.

If the playoffs started today, the Bruins (3) would take on the Montreal Canadiens (6), but anything can happen from now to the end of the season.
