The Bruins once again couldn't hold a lead against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the game went to a shootout where the Leafs would come out with the two points in a 4-3 shootout loss for the Bruins. The Bruins now need one more point to clinch the Northeast Division.
After the first period, the Leafs led the game 1-0.
In the second period, Brad Marchand scored his 21st goal of the season, a short-handed goal on a great individual effort getting around Clarke MacArthur to tie the game. 59 seconds later David Krejci scored his 13th goal of the season on a beautiful tic-tac-toe goal between Nathan Horton, Milan Lucic, and Krejci. The Leafs would tie it up. Later, Andrew Ference scored his 3rd goal of the season on a slap shot that may have been redirected by a Leafs defenseman but a shot that Reimer should have stopped.
Besides the goal scoring in the second period, there was also some rough stuff going on, you know hockey. Milan Lucic and Jay Rosehill dropped the gloves and had a long spirited fight with both guys exchanging bombs. I'm glad Lucic is ok and didn't get hurt from fighting a player who does that for a living. As Jack Edwards said, Rosehill probably won't score 30 goals during his whole NHL career. Watch the fight below.
In the third period, the Leafs would tie it up and the game would go into overtime, and then into a shootout.
In the shootout, for the Bruins, Tyler Seguin and Michael Ryder couldn't score on their chances. For the Leafs, Phil Kessel missed the net and Nazem Kadri scored on a beautiful top shelf goal. Then Bruins Rich Peverley couldn't score to tie it.
I don't get why Ryder was chosen for the shootout as he is awful and does the same thing. At least put in Patrice Bergeron who has had some success on shootouts or even
Tim Thomas played in net and made 28 saves on 31 shots. Thomas is now 33-10-9, with a 1.98 GAA, and a .939 save percentage.
The Bruins led the game in shots 38-31. The Leafs led the game in faceoff wins 36-29 and hits 23-16.
There were times that Zdeno Chara was missing on the bench during the game. After the game Claude Julien wouldn't say what was up with him. And today Chara has an off day from practice. So you have to think that something is up with him. He will play on Saturday.
Onto the next one
The Bruins next game is on Saturday, hosting the Atlanta Thrashers at 1pm EST. These afternoon games are usually bad for the Bruins. It will be good seeing Mark Stuart on the ice, but now on the opposition. Oh yeah and Blake Wheeler.
