Bruins draft goalie Malcolm Subban with 24th overall pick

On Friday, with the 24th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the Boston Bruins drafted goalie Malcolm Subban. Subban was one of, if not the top, expected goalie to be taken in the late first round. Apparently Malcolm Subban is the opposite of P.K. Subban as he's more humble. As long as he doesn't flop around the ice like P.K. does I think this is a real good pick for the Bruins.

Subban, a 6'1", 188-pound goalie from Rexdale, Ontario, recorded a 2.50 goals-against average and .923 save percentage, posting a 25-14 record with three shutouts in 39 games during the 2011-12 season with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League. He finished the season fourth among OHL goalies in goals-against average and fifth in save percentage. Subban also played in six playoff games for the Bulls, posting a 2.93 goals-against average and .917 save percentage and earning a 2-3-1 record. Subban was named Vaughn OHL Goaltender of the Month in November of 2011, going 9-1-0 with a 1.48 GAA and .952 SV% with two shutouts. During the regular season, he was undefeated in three shootouts, stopping all 12 shots he faced. In April, Subban was ranked the top North American draft-eligible goaltender in the Central Scouting Bureau's rankings release.

In 2010-11, Subban was second among OHL rookie goaltenders with a 3.16 GAA and .900 SV% in 32 games for Belleville. Subban also recorded a 2.02 GAA and .933 SV% in three playoff games. In 81 career OHL games, he finished with a 2.76 GAA and .914 SV% with three shutouts. Internationally, Subban played for Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team at the 2011 IIHF World-Under 18 Championship in Germany, helping his team finish fourth with a 2.98 goals-against average and 3-2 record. He also attended Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence goaltending camp in Calgary, AB, in June 2011.

The goaltender played two games in 2009-10 with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, in addition to a game with Belleville, prior to his past two seasons with the club. Subban was drafted by the Bulls 218th overall in the 11th round of the 2009 OHL Priority Draft.
