Bruins trade deadline deals

Wednesday was the NHL trade deadline and the Bruins made one trade for a defenseman and picked up another defenseman off waivers to try and help out their banged up defense.

The Bruins acquired veteran defenseman Andrej Meszaros from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Boston's 3rd round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bruins also claimed defenseman Corey Potter off of waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.

Meszaros has appeared in 38 games for the Flyers this year and has racked up five goals and 12 assists for 17 points (third among Philadelphia defensemen) with 34 penalty minutes.

In total, the 28-year-old blueliner has appeared in 571 NHL games, including 246 with the Ottawa Senators (2005-08), 133 with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2008-10) and 192 with the Philadelphia Flyers (2010-2014). In nine NHL seasons, Meszaros has registered 54 goals and 165 assists for 219 points with a combined plus-34 rating.

Meszaros has skated in 46 career postseason games, registering four goals and 11 assist for 15 points.

Corey Potter has skated in 16 games with the Edmonton Oilers this season and has recorded five assists with 21 penalty minutes.

In total, Potter has skated in a total of 120 NHL games between the New York Rangers (eight games, 2008-10), Pittsburgh Penguins (one game, 2010-11) and Edmonton Oilers (111 games, 2011-14) where he has accrued eight goals and 24 assists with 53 penalty minutes.
